December is here and Christmas is around the corner! If you are not sure what to get for the quilter on your gift list, we have Gift Certificates available. We can also make up quilt kits for you! Just give us a price range and we will get the kit ready for you.
Charm School
Our next Charm School is Saturday December 20th at 9am sharp! Remember if you pre pay before Dec. 20th, you receive 5% off. If you don’t pre pay for the Charm School Project Pack we can’t guarantee that there will be one left for you as we have a limited amount of extra packs. You can get all the info and register for Charm School on the web site or come by the shop to register! We learned some good tips about working with charm squares at the August and October Charm School. You can see October’s project quilt on the home page of our web site. The December project Charm pack will contain 220 charm squares and cost $58.99. Remember if you pre pay your cost for the Charm pack it will be $56.04 with your 5% discount. Get ready to learn lots about using 5” Charm squares! We are going to have sew much fun!
Idea Saturday
Our next “Idea Saturday” will be Saturday January 17th , 2009 at 9am sharp! Come by and we will share at least 5 ideas and have free instructions for each idea! We will have refreshments as well! You can get the instructions free at 9am; if we have any “Idea Saturday” booklets left they will be $5. See you January 17th as we start our 4th year of “Idea Saturday”!
Christmas Ornaments
For the 1st time at SunFlower Quilts we are able to have a Christmas tree, but need help decorating the tree with ornaments. We are asking volunteers to take an ornament donation tag that is now hanging on our tree, make a handmade ornament (it has to be handmade) bring the tag filled out and hang the ornament you have made on the tree. Give us the filled out donation tag and you will be eligible for a drawing Nov. 26th, 2008 where you have the chance to win a $50 gift certificate, a $10 gift certificate from the shop or a bundle of Christmas fat quarters. One ornament per donation tag. On December 1st all the ornaments will be donated to The Cottage of Spring Branch, an Alzheimer residence care facility to decorate their Christmas tree! Thank you so much for helping spread the holiday cheer to Alzheimer patients! All the ornaments look great!! You have to come see our tree, a big thank you to all who made those beautiful ornaments.
Mystery Quilt Club
SunFlower Quilts Mystery Quilt Club info is ready! You can register for our new mystery BOM Club. All the info is ready. Come by the shop, call or go to the web site to get all the info. We will start in January 2009! We are very excited about this new club! The quilt was designed by Debbie Caffrey called “Treasure Hunt” and we are going to have lots of fun in this club! The Mystery club is open to all walk in customers only, sorry it is not available for internet customers as requested by Debbie Caffrey.
One Yard Hugs
It’s that time of year again to start making “One Yard Hugs” for the preemie babies born at local hospitals! All you have to do is take 1 yard of flannel, cut off the selvages and finish the raw edge. Last year all the Wonderful volunteers donated over 500 “One Yard Hugs” WOW! Lets see how many we can donate this year! So far we have 226 wonderful one yard hugs! Plus Sarah Doty has hand knitted the cutest baby caps and blankets, thanks Sarah! We will collect the hugs until Dec. 15th! Call, come by the shop or email with questions.
That Quilter
Donna Warnement will be here the 2nd Tuesday December 11th from 10am – noon. You can bring your tops for Donna to quilt or pick up a quilt that is ready from Donna, or just come for the fun show and tell of all the beautiful quilts! Donna does a great job!
Block of the Month Kits
Garden Friends BOM kits are ready Nov. 25th and Dec. 23rd.
The Thimbleberries Club
The Thimbleberries Club will meet the 2nd Sunday December 14th from 2-3pm for the Christmas party. Please bring a food dish with the recipe and a handmade gift for the gift exchange if you would like to participate. We will only have the Sunday meeting Not the Thursday meeting.
Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Research
Ovarian cancer awareness and research update: We want to thank everyone for all of the Ovarian blocks pouring in! The blocks are beautiful and will touch so many lives! The joint sew in is scheduled for January 18th (Sunday) 2009 from 2-8pm to assemble all the blocks into quilt tops. Then we will ask for volunteers to quilt and bind them and turn in the completed quilts to the shop or MD Anderson by July 1, 2009. The quilts will then be auctioned online in October 2009. Lets see how much money we can all raise for MD Anderson again with the quilts! For more info you can contact us or MD Anderson at www.mdanderson.org/departments/ovarianquilt. Last Spring’s online auction that MD Anderson sponsored was a wonderful success!! The quilts and all of the wonderful hands and creative juices that made them raised $11,440! Let’s see if we can raise $22,000 for next year’s auction! I know we can do it. All proceeds go for Ovarian Cancer Research. The sew-in is January 20, 2009 so please put it on your calendar!
Quilt Classes
Classes will start back up in January 2009 so keep checking the web site for new classes.
After Christmas Sale
Our annual after Christmas sale will be 1 day only December 26th from 10 -5pm. All Christmas fabric will be 50 – 75% off and all regular price fabric will be 25% off, 1 yard minimum cuts. We will start counting inventory Dec. 27th so come buy some fabric to make it easier on us for our end of year inventory counting!
Holiday Hours
We will be closed Thanksgiving Nov. 27; Christmas Eve Dec. 24th and Christmas day Dec. 25th.
