SunFlower Quilts August Newsletter
* August is here already! Where has the summer gone or for that the matter the year? It is time to start thinking about Christmas gifts if you want to get them done in time! I hope some of you were able to go to The Greater Houston Quilt Guild show last month, we heard it was fabulous with lots of wonderful quilts to see and get inspired by. Book club begins this month which we are very excited about; there is more info about book club further down in the newsletter.
* That Quilter Donna Warnement will be here the first Tuesday August 4th from 10 am – 12:00 noon! You can bring your tops for Donna to quilt or pick up a quilt that is ready from Donna, or just come for the fun show and tell of all the beautiful quilts! Donna does a great job!
Looking for something new? We have it, and it’s called Show ‘N’ Tell Saturday! On August 8, 2009 at 10am sharp we will have our Free Show ‘N’ Tell Saturday. Remember, back in school when everyone would bring their favorite things to show the class? Well, that’s basically what Show ‘N’ Tell Saturday is. As a “teller”, bring a project to show; or as a listener, come for some great inspiration! If you bring a project to show, we’ll even give you a gift for taking your time to share it with us. * Book Club is starting this month!
Sunflower Quilts proudly presents BOOK CLUB. And it’s not just another book to read. No pop quizzes, either. This is a monthly program that, if you follow the rules, will give you twelve 12” blocks (instructions and free fabric for all twelve blocks! Plus the choice of 1 of 6 different settings at an additional cost which are optional).
Here’s what to do:
- Enroll by August 15, 2009 or until spaces are available. (We have 5 spaces left)
- Choose either a batik or floral color way
- Choose a BOOK CLUB Day – either the fourth Tuesday of each month at 10:00 am or the fourth Saturday of each month at 10:00 am or 2:00 pm.
- Pay a nominal one time BOOK CLUB enrollment fee of $26.00 (includes the book used for the entire twelve months.)
- Follow the rules to receive your monthly block kit ABSOLUTELY FREE.
Come by the shop to sign up today as spaces are limited.
* Block of the Month We started our new BOM on June 15th; it is a Texas themed BOM. You can see the quilt hanging in the shop or on our blog at www.sunflower-quilts.blogspot.com There are only 3 spots left! We know you will want to participate because of course it is Texas! The July block kits will be ready July 15th!
* Candy Cane Shop Hop dates are December 3-6, 2009. What a great way to start the holiday month with a shop hop! Each shop will give FREE instructions for a Christmas ornament, there are great prizes and more info and a web site will be coming soon!
Do you need a Jump Start?
Just a little kick start to get that project going? Here’s how Sunflower Quilts can help you. It’s called our Jump Start Corner, and it’s coming this month. So, what is a Jump Start, and how does it work? Easy. . . First, choose a pattern or book from the variety available in the Jump Start Corner. Second, choose your fabrics from our Jump Start fabric packs (coordinated fabric bundles pre-selected specifically for these projects). And last, customize your project by selecting the finishing fabrics (i.e. sashing, border, background, binding, and backing). With our customers in mind., we have chosen Jump Start projects that are user friendly (most have been tested by the staff). Sometimes we will even give you a Sunflower Quilts exclusive tip sheet. These projects will vary by month so check the Jump Start Corner often.
Remember, it’s easy to get started with a Jump Start. . .just CHOOSE your pattern or book, SELECT your Jump Start fabric pack, CUSTOMIZE, and SEW!

* Ovarian Cancer Quilt Auction with MD Anderson will be October 14-28, 2009. The auction lasts for 2 weeks and some of the quilts will be hanging at Quilt Festival this year! How exciting, go to www.mdanderson.org/ovarianquilt for more info and to make a bid in October! A great big THANK YOU to all who have helped with this wonderful project!
* The Greater Houston Shop Hop dates are March 19, 20, 26 and 27, 2010. There will be 20 shops participating and we are very excited to be a part of this wonderful shop hop. More info and a web site will be coming soon!
* New fabrics: Some Christmas lines are expected as well as other great lines. From RJR there are some new Jinny Beyer fabrics called Necessary Neutrals coming, new Batiks and basics. From RJR Robyn Pandolph Roses De Noel a beautiful Christmas line with great reds and browns; Laura Heine new line called Hey Cowboy. From Moda, a new line from Fig Tree Quilts with peaches and purples, A Christmas flannel line called Jingles and lots more! We also have 2 new magazines, Quiltmainia and Country Quilting and Gifts and several new books.
* Idea Saturday: Our next “Idea Saturday” will be Saturday September 19, 2009 at 9am sharp! Come by and we will share at least 5 ideas and have free instructions for each idea! We will have refreshments as well! You can get the instructions free at 9am; if we have any “Idea Saturday” booklets left they will be $10.
* SunFlower Quilts Mystery Quilt Club meetings in August are Sunday August 9, 2009 from 2-3pm or Thursday August 13, 2009 from 6-7pm.
* Book Club dates are Saturday August 22 at 10am or 2pm sharp; or Tuesday August 25, 2009 at 10am sharp!
